Welcome to Our Website

This is Bakassi Online, a site dedicated to fighting for the cause of the Bakassi people. We Believe that Bakkassi was sold out in Error, This site is aimed at ensuring the return of what rightfully belongs to the Bakassi People.
Bakassi Peninsula geographically extends from the mainland of the present Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the Cross River State of Nigeria down to the Gulf of Guinea which empties into the Atlantic Ocean in the South. Being contiguous with Akpabuyo landmass, from which it penetrates out into the Ocean, It would have been better known as AKPABUYO PENINSULA by then, If rapid development had been extended to the area at the early stage of its formative period. Bakassi Peninsula and the land of Akpabuyo form contiguous landmass with Rio del Rey on the east and the Cross River estuary on the west, while the area between them in the middle extends south into the Ocean as Bakassi Peninsula. Bakassi has been part of the Efik Kingdom since creation. You will agree that at that time there were not in existence in the geographical entities known as Nigeria and Cameroun.

During the European scramble for Africa, Queen Victoria signed a Treaty of Protection with the King and Chiefs of Old Calabar on 10 September 1884. This enabled the United Kingdom to exercise control over the entire territory of Old Calabar, including Bakassi. The territory subsequently became de facto part of the republic of Nigeria, although the border was never permanently delineated.
